Basic Info
L-glutathione
Glutathione (GSH), the full name of reduced glutathione, is an important antioxidant for plants, animals, fungi, and some bacteria and archaea. It is a white crystalline powder. It is a tripeptide with a gamma peptide bond between the carboxyl groups The glutamic acid side chain and amino group of cysteine, and the carboxyl group of cysteine are attached to glycine by a normal peptide bond. Glutathione acts as an electron donor to reduce disulfide bonds formed within cytoplasmic proteins to cysteine. During this process, glutathione is converted to its oxidized form, glutathione disulfide (GSSG), also known as L-glutathione.
